White House Fenced In Due to Potential Destruction

WASHINGTON DC. On May 31, 2020 during the George Floyd riots, St. Johns Church was set on fire. During this event in which over 50 Secret Service agents were injured, White House personnel seemed to have had enough. In order to protect the People’s house, an emblem of our history and freedom, President Trump ordered that a fence be erected around 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. This action was met with retribution and anger from Mayor of D.C., Muriel Bowser, news outlets, and keyboard warriors, with claims that that the fence was an attempt to keep law-abiding citizens away from the house paid for by American tax dollars. Maybe what some fail to understand is that this decision was made not to keep peaceful people out, but to prevent harm to our people and property. When at the end of May, fires scorched towns across America, other countries celebrated, calling it “the collapse of America.” When a country appears weak and out of control, especially in its own capitol, it can become a major target for those who want to do the country harm. A national security threat does not only threaten the structure of the White House, but every American citizen. America operates under the Rule of Law. This means that any crime committed, no matter by whom, should be punished in conformity with the law. Vandalism, arson, and violence are illegal. These were the acts that pushed the White House to shut rioters out. Though they were protesting for a cause connected with the murder of George Floyd, this did not give them a free pass to commit criminal acts.
